What We Do

Our Toki School of Music and the Arts Rapa Nui is an initiative founded by pianist Mahani Teave and led by Toki NGO on Rapa Nui, the most remote inhabited territory in the world, located more than 3,750 km from the nearest coast.

This emblematic program was born in 2012 with the purpose of addressing vulnerability and inequality caused by the island’s geographic isolation, through an integral and community-based approach.
Our teaching begins with a foundation in values such as collaborative work, perseverance, self-discipline, and care for the environment. At the same time, we promote artistic excellence through solid artistic and cultural training.

The Music School offers two main areas of artistic learning: classical and rapa nui traditions. We also develop educational programs in parallel spaces on the island, both inside the school and in the broader community.

Regular Program at the School:

Students receive artistic and musical training in our facilities, guided by the School’s academic chairs. Lessons, ensembles, technical practice, and extracurricular activities give each student a wide range of tools for their artistic and personal growth.

Community-Based Program:

Our teaching team also works directly in various spaces outside the school. Among the organizations we currently collaborate with are theHare Koa Tiare”the Children’s Home, the Penitentiary Center, the Cultural Corporation Toŋariki, and several local schools. The goal is to promote well-being, create connections through art, and offer a positive space for expression.

Today, more than 150 people benefit from Toki’s educational program across the different learning spaces.

We also offer a wide cultural program open to the community and visitors, aiming to expand musical, artistic, and cultural opportunities on the island.
