INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n The Institutional Educational Project (PEI) of the Toki School of Music and Arts is a\ntechnical planning and management tool that guides the educational work of our\ninstitution.<\/p>\n Our vision, mission, principles and values provide direction for all pedagogical\nactions carried out by the educational community. Over time, this collective\ncommitment aims to reflect these principles in each student.<\/p>\n The foundations of our PEI are based on a set of philosophical, political and\ntechnical statements, with a strong focus on ancestral values:<\/p>\n Mo\u02bba: Respect. Every member of the educational community, as well as the\nenvironment, society and culture, deserves to be treated with respect.<\/p>\n Umanga: Collaborative work for the common good.<\/p>\n Tapu: Sacred. Our children and our learning space are tapu\u2014protected and\ncared for.<\/p>\n Here: Love as the foundation of our work and what we seek to cultivate. The\nbonds that unite our educational community.<\/p>\n REVIEW<\/strong> In 2012, the first pianos arrived with a visiting teacher, marking the starting point of\nwhat would later become the Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts. Over time,\nnew classical and traditional rapa nui disciplines were added, each with their\nrespective teachers. However, as the project grew, it still did not have its own space\nand operated in different locations across the island.<\/p>\n In 2014, construction of the Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts began, thanks\nto the support of more than 340 volunteers. The building was inaugurated in early\n2016. This fully self-sustainable structure sought to become an example for the world\nand to offer solutions to several of the island\u2019s challenges, such as excess waste,\nenergy shortages, and lack of water.<\/p>\n 1. EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT<\/strong><\/p>\n 1.1 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts is a nonprofit institution and part of\nToki NGO. Its mission is to offer students a holistic education that includes music\ninstruction as well as the values linked to its practice, such as perseverance, respect,\nenvironmental awareness, and the preservation of traditions.<\/p>\n The School of Music and Arts Toki Rapa Nui has a full academic program and\nannual plans for the Piano, Violin, Cello, and Musical Training departments, as well\nas introductory programs for beginners. Classes are complemented with concerts\nand extracurricular workshops designed to strengthen the school\u2019s value-based\napproach.<\/p>\n The curriculum and programs for the ancestral arts area are currently in\ndevelopment and represent one of our major challenges for the coming years.<\/p>\n 1.2 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts recognizes that each student\u2019s\nfamily is their primary educator, and sees its own role as complementary to that\nresponsibility. It is essential that parents and guardians commit to supporting\nstudents\u2019 learning processes and participate actively in the educational life of the\norganization.<\/p>\n 2. PEDAGOGICAL FRAMEWORK<\/strong><\/p>\n 2.1. STUDENT PROFILE Students at the Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts grow and mature through\nthe principles and values fostered by the institution, using music and the arts as tools\nto develop into individuals with the following characteristics:<\/p>\n A student with cognitive, artistic, and cultural abilities, demonstrating strong social\nand ethical commitment, solidarity, and empathy.<\/p>\n A confident and participatory student, capable of communicating and expressing\ntheir ideas among peers or within a work group.<\/p>\n A student who respects the environment, with ecological awareness and a desire\nto become an agent of change for sustainable growth.<\/p>\n A student who respects rapa nui culture in all its forms of expression, capable of\nmaintaining a global perspective while also nurturing affection for their roots.<\/p>\n A student with civic values, who prioritizes freedom and tolerance, and is capable\nof leading and organizing group activities.<\/p>\n A student of integrity, respectful toward the community, supportive, responsible,\nand committed to fulfilling agreements.<\/p>\n A student who welcomes and seeks integration within their surroundings through\nreconciliation and music, despite any differences that may exist.<\/p>\n 2.2 FUNDAMENTAL PEDAGOGICAL ASPIRATIONS To achieve this objective, it is essential to focus on students and their learning\nprocesses; to plan effectively in order to enhance learning; to share musical practice\nthrough attentive and respectful listening; and to experience the values of mo\u2018a\n(respect), umanga (working collaboratively for the common good), tapu\n(sacredness), and here (love).<\/p>\n In the pursuit of excellence, teachers accompany each student to ensure they\ndevelop the profile described above.<\/p>\n 2.2.2 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts seeks to be a space for the\npreservation of the island\u2019s ancestral and cultural traditions. Its work emphasizes the\nremembrance of the rapa nui worldview through teaching practices and cultural\nactivities, as well as a conscious effort to safeguard cultural and linguistic heritage,\nwith a special focus on music.<\/p>\n 2.2.3 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts aims to develop in close\ninteraction with the geographical and social environment, both in the teaching of its\ncontent and in the use of diverse spaces and contexts. It also seeks to establish\nconnections with other educational institutions and maintain strong relationships with\nlocal organizations and entities, expanding networks of collaboration and support.<\/p>\n 2.2.4 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts plays a significant role in building\na better society by promoting the emergence of change that begins within the most\nintimate circles of the educational community and extends outward. With a strong\nemphasis on values, it seeks to ensure that students feel fulfilled as they gradually\nrealize their potential and that they grow to build a sense of belonging within this\ncommunity, where they are validated as complete and valuable human beings.<\/p>\n 2.2.5 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts understands itself as an\neducational community composed of students, teachers, parents and guardians,\nadministrative staff, and operational personnel, all of whom must work together to\nensure an optimal environment for the comprehensive development of the students.<\/p>\n 3. CURRICULUM<\/strong> Graduates of the instrument programs are students who have officially completed\ntheir curricular requirements, which may vary depending on the selected instrument\nor artistic discipline. Upon finishing, they will receive certification of completion of the\nbasic or intermediate cycle, depending on their level.<\/p>\n The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts also offers workshops aimed at bringing\nchildren and young people closer to rapa nui culture, with an emphasis on the use of\nthe language and traditional artistic expressions.<\/p>\n Regularly, teacher concerts are held with the goal of bringing this type of music\ncloser to the community and maintaining the high artistic standard of each educator.\nStudent concerts are also organized to showcase their progress, empower them,\nand give them the confidence needed to continue their learning process. Concerts\nand presentations from different disciplines are offered together on large stages or\nspecial occasions, and extracurricular activities are carried out, such as\nmasterclasses and performances with guest musicians.<\/p>\n The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts also offers talks and workshops related\nto environmental awareness and the implementation of sustainable practices. This\napproach is essential to the holistic education of the student.<\/p>\n 4. Until 2011, there was no space on Rapa Nui where children and young people could\ndevelop their talent in a structured and methodical way in the field of classical music,\nwith a curriculum of the highest standards and specialized teachers for each\ninstrument. This reality left the community with only two options: either leave the\nisland to pursue studies of this kind\u2014along with the cultural loss that departure\nimplied\u2014or give up that dream entirely.<\/p>\n
As educators, the Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts ensures ongoing\nprofessional development for its team and is responsible for monitoring and\nsupporting teachers in their pedagogical practices.<\/p>\n
2.2.1 The Toki Rapa Nui School of Music and Arts aims to provide its students with a\ncomprehensive, high-quality education that awakens their interest and motivation to\nlearn and think critically.<\/p>\n
The commitment of this educational community and the study programs\nand workshops offered aim, from an academic perspective, to ensure that\ngraduating students are young individuals with artistic and cultural\npreparation and equipped with tools to pursue higher education or enter\nthe workforce.<\/p>\n
The Board is composed of rapa nui members who ensure that the foundation\u2019s\nmission and vision are upheld. It establishes the guidelines to follow, appoints the\nperson who will assume the role of General Coordinator, and oversees their\nmanagement.<\/p>\n
The General Coordination is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of the\nfoundation and all of its activities. It coordinates different areas in their daily\noperational needs and ensures compliance with the PEI (Institutional Educational\nProject).<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s coordination team is responsible for directing and implementing actions\nrequired to carry out the PEI; developing actions to achieve the establishment\u2019s\ngoals and objectives; managing the school\u2019s relationship with the community; and\nensuring a positive organizational climate.<\/p>\n
The Academic Direction is responsible for ensuring the quality of the programs\nimplemented, monitoring and applying improvements to the educational process,\nreviewing the curriculum, ensuring correct implementation, supervising the execution\nof the PEI, and verifying that the school\u2019s objectives are being met.<\/p>\n
The teaching team is composed of all the educators of the Toki Rapa Nui School of\nMusic and Arts, who meet weekly to address academic, formative, and\norganizational matters.<\/p>\n
5.1. MISSION: To inspire, preserve, and transmit the cultural richness of Rapa Nui\nthrough a transformative and holistic education that integrates classical music and\nancestral knowledge.
5.2. VISION: To be a space where children and young people can develop their\ntalents in a safe environment, preserving their identity and promoting their well-being\nthrough an integral and sustainable education.<\/p>\n
